This weekend Monica competed in the National Capital Area Cake Show and left with two first place awards and a "Best of Division"!  She didn't have time to create a beautiful wedding cake to enter this year, but decided to compete once again in the cupcake challenge and won first place again.  Her winning cupcake was a Godiva chocolate cupcake filled with coconut custard, topped with chocolate ganache, toasted coconut and a beautiful blue molded buttercream Robin's egg.  This year there were actually 8 winners instead of two.  Seasonal cupcakes was the theme and each season had a best professional and Amateur Baker winner.  Monica actually got to taste a couple other cupcakes this year and they were delicious!  She doesn't know how the judges make their decisions.
She also entered two cake tastings and took first place with one- her Linzer torte.  The Linzer torte also won "Best of Division", which means out of all the cake tasting categories that were judged, the judges liked hers the best.  She won a shiny new kitchen aid mixer for that!
